Podgorica City tour – Kolasin
In the morning we take a walking tour of Podgorica, to explore more about the capital city before going to the mountains. We visit the old town and walk through some of the most important historical sites such as Repuclic square, St George church from the 11th century, the Skaline, the Doganjska Mosque from the 15th century, the clock tower, the Millenium and Russian bridges, and the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ.
Leaving the capital, we drive towards the mountain village of Kolasin, and the National Park of Biogradska Gora.
We visit the park, One of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves, this are is one of the last three large virgin forests in Europe. The landscape is one of mountain ridges, glacial lakes, and temperate forest. Although it is the smallest of four National Parks in Montenegro, Biogradska Gora National Park contains a big diversity of flora and fauna, including 220 different plants, 150 kinds of birds, 86 kinds of trees. We enjoy a walk in the Biogadsko lake, located at an altitude of 1094m.
We spend the afternoon in Kolasin, the small village surrounded by high mountains and the two rivers, Tara and Moraca. Because of its altitude of about 1000 meters and the favorable climate Kolasin is considered a natural SPA area. Dinner with traditional dishes of the village and overnight in Kolasin.
Kolasin – Tara Bridge and Tara Canyon – Durmitor National Park – Zabljak
Another day wandering through Montenegro mountains. This morning we drive towards another National Park, Durmitor. This breathtaking national park is formed by a landscape shaped by glacier lakes, numerous rivers, and underground streams
Here is located also the deepest canyon in Europe, Tara Canyon.
Before reaching the rural town of Zabljak, we see the Tara bridge stands gloriously 172 m above the Tara river, Built from 1938 to 1940. In that time, the Djurdjevica Tara bridge was considered the most beautiful bridge in the Balkans – so beautiful that, according to one of the legends, it is believed the fairies helped build the bridge.
We spend the night in Zabljak enjoying the fresh air and the delicious cuisine of the village. For the most adventurous ones, the region offers a big variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, zip line, river rafting etc.
Zabljak – Monastery of Ostrog – Cetinje
This morning we leave the national park and dedicate the day to the religious sites of Montenegro; visiting two important monasteries: Ostrog and Cetinje.
The Orthodox monastery of Ostrog is one of the most visited monasteries in the Balkans. It is visited by believers from all over the world, individually or in groups. It is a confluence of all three confessions: Orthodox, Catholic and Muslim, as it is believed that the relics of St. Vasilije of Ostrog are miraculous. According to pilgrims’ testimonials, praying in front of these relics has helped them cure or lessen their life’s troubles.
The lower monastery centres around the Church of the Holy Trinity, built in 1824. The upper monastery is a 3km / 2 mile walk uphill from the lower monastery, and in built in a sheer cliff.
After the visit, we transfer to Cetinje. The ancient capital of Montenegro, founded at the foot of Lovcen Mountain in the 13th century. It is located at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level, in a unique climate zone. The city is also called as an open-air museum and it is the country’s cultural center with many historical and architectural monuments. Cetinje – Lovcen National Park – Njegusi – Budva
Today we will discover the charms of Lovćen National Park and Njeguši while enjoying Spectacular mountain landscapes and visiting traditional Montenegrin villages:
We drive to Lovcen Mountain, a stunning natural space home to important cultural and architectural heritage, From Mount Lovćen, the country tool its name ; Montenegro, meaning the “Black Mountain”.
We will climb the 461 steps to the top of one its peaks, Jezerski, located at 1,657 metres above sea level.
Reaching the summit of Jezerski, we’ll find the Mausoleum of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, a Montenegrin poet, philosopher and prince.
The next stop is Njeguši, a traditional Montenegrin town hidden in the mountains. We’ll explore its picturesque streets and admire the views they offer of the Dinaric Alps across the bay.
We enjoy a degustation of the famous Njegusi prosciutto, the locally produced ham and local cheeses.
In the early afternoon, we reach the old town of Budva, where we will spend the next 2 overnights.
The Old town of Budva is a unique architectural and urban town and one of the oldest centers in the Adriatic with more than 2.500 years of history. Dinner by the seaside and overnight in Budva.
Budva – The baroque town of Perast and boat ride 1 hrs – Exploring the UNESCO old town of Kotor – Budva
This morning we visit Perast the most picturesque baroque town on the whole Adriatic coast, after the drive through the panoramic road overlooking the Boka Bay
Arriving in Perast, we take a boat tour and reach the artificial island, built in the 15th century. We are going to visit the Church of Our Lady of the Rock (sanctuary of sailors of the old times), and the museum built on the island. The Church is a shrine and a treasury which houses the biggest world collection of the silver votive tablets.
We then make a comfort stop at the UNESCO World Heritage listed town of Kotor. The old port of Kotor is surrounded by fortifications built during the Venetian period, and is a picturesque Mediterranean landscape.
Visit the old town and the Cathedral of St Thryphon. In the afternoon return to Budva. Dinner and overnight.
Budva – Skadar Lake Boat tour and Skadar National Park – Wine tasting in the biggest vineyards in Europe – Podgorica
This morning we transfer towards Skadar Lake, the biggest lake in the region. It is also one of Europe’s largest bird reserves is surrounded by majestic mountains and lush greenery. Its unspoiled natural beauty with timeless villages along the shore, island monasteries, clear water and lovely meadow of water lilies. Visit the panoramic surroundings and enjoy a boat tour in the lake for 1 hour. Further Continue to Plantaze Winery. Here are the biggest vineyards in Europe, stretching across 2310 hectares of farmland and bordering Lake Skadar at the Southernmost point of the Adriatic coast. Owned by the Montenegrin company 13.Jul Plantaže and established in 1963, this vineyard aims to combine its rich heritage in wine production with the contemporary needs of its customers, creating a range of wines and grape brandies to suit all tastes. The vineyard produces one of the largest selections of wines from a Montenegrin source, including an award winning fresh and floral white crnogorski sauvignon, and three different types of vranac. We visit the vineyards, cellars and enjoy a degustation of 3 types of wine. In the afternoon return to Podgorica for our last night in Montenegro. Farewell dinner and overnight in Podgorica.
