The Montenegro Religious Tour is a 7 days program that will take you to the main religious and holy sites of Montenegro .
Eastern Orthodox Christianity is the dominant religious denomination in Montenegro, but there are also sizable numbers of adherents of both Catholic Christianity and Islam. The dominant Church is the Serbian Orthodox Church although traces of a forming Montenegrin Orthodox Church are present.
During the tour you will visit three main monasteries, cathedrals and churches through the medieval towns; combined with the beauty of Montenegrin nature, history and culture

Podgorica – Ostrog Monastery – Podgorica
In the morning we take a walking tour of Podgorica, to explore more about the capital city before going to the mountains. We visit the old town and walk through some of the most important historical sites such as Repuclic square, St George church from the 11th century, the Skaline, the Doganjska Mosque from the 15th century, the clock tower, the Millenium and Russian bridges,
Entrance to the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, which with it`s monumental, architectural and artistic value, is a unique, new, religious building.
Construction of the temple began in 1993 and lasted for 20 years. The temple is dominated by two pirgs – towers, that are 26.7 meters high, and 17 bells are situated in its loft. The weight of the heaviest one is around 11 tons and it is the largest bell in Balkan. One of the important features of the temple is certainly its artistic decoration. It is one of the largest and most interesting gallery of stone sculpture among religious structures. Frescoes are done in fresco technique, and their background is gilded.
The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ is a place of pilgrimage for many orthodox believers.
After the visits in Podgorica, we transfer to Ostrog Monastery, a miracle building carved in a vertical mountain cliff. It is today the pearl of Montenegrin spiritualism that is annually visited by more than a hundred thousand pilgrims from around the world and of all religions. It is one of three most visited Christian destinations on the planet with its cave like chapel and monastery complex that preserves the sacrilege of Saint Basil the Orthodox Saint of Miracles. It is a confluence of all three confessions: Orthodox, Catholic and Muslim, as it is believed that the relics of St. Vasilije of Ostrog are miraculous. According to pilgrims’ testimonials, praying in front of these relics has helped them cure or lessen their life’s troubles. The lower monastery centres around the Church of the Holy Trinity, built in 1824. The upper monastery is a 3km / 2 mile walk uphill from the lower monastery.

Podgorica – Cetinje Monastery – Budva
This morning we transfer to Cetinje. The ancient capital of Montenegro, founded at the foot of Lovcen Mountain in the 13th century. It is located at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level, in a unique climate zone. The city is also called as an open-air museum and it is the country’s cultural center with many historical and architectural monuments. Guided tour of the city and entrance to the Monastery of Cetinje. It was built in 1701 by Bishop-Prince Danilo, the founder of the Petrović Njegoš dynasty. This monastery keeps the hand of Saint john Baptist and the particle of holy cross. It also keeps relics of Sveti Petar Cetinjski, as well as Oktoih, the book printed in 1494.
In the afternoon we transfer to Budva, where enjoy a guided tour of the medieval old town.
We enter the Church of The Holy Trinity, located next to Budva Citadel. It is an orthodox church buit from 1797 till 1804. It has a bell loft with three bells and a dome. Its facade is decorated with a rosette above the western door. The iconostasis of this church is the work of Greek iconographers from the 19th century and possesses great artistic value.

Budva – The baroque town of Perast and boat ride 1 hrs – Exploring the UNESCO old town of Kotor – Budva
This morning we visit Perast the most picturesque baroque town on the whole Adriatic coast, after the drive through the panoramic road overlooking the Boka Bay
Arriving in Perast, we take a boat tour and reach the artificial island, built in the 15th century. We are going to visit the Church of Our Lady of the Rock (sanctuary of sailors of the old times), and the museum built on the island. The Church is a shrine and a treasury which houses the biggest world collection of the silver votive tablets.
We then make a comfort stop at the UNESCO World Heritage listed town of Kotor. The old port of Kotor is surrounded by fortifications built during the Venetian period, and is a picturesque Mediterranean landscape.
Visit the old town and the Cathedral of St Thryphon. St. Triphon’s Cathedral is the most significant monument from medieval Kotor. Its construction was completed in 1166,
St. Tryphon’s Cathedral has in its possession a rich collection of art paintings preserving the works of many great artists. The church has a rich collection of gold and silver relics, the works of local masters from the period from the fourteenth to the eighteenth centuries. The interior of the Cathedral is depicted with frescoes done by Greek masters.

Budva – Boat Tour in Skadar lake – Hidden Monastery of Kom – Podgorica
This morning we transfer towards Skadar Lake, the biggest lake in the region. It is also one of Europe’s largest bird reserves is surrounded by majestic mountains and lush greenery. Its unspoiled natural beauty with timeless villages along the shore, island monasteries, clear water and lovely meadow of water lilies. Visit the panoramic surroundings and enjoy a boat tour in the lake. The boat will take us to a hidden Monastery, the Monastery of Kom, built in the beginning of the 14th century on the crest of Odrin Hill. Most of the time it can be reached by boat only and there is only one inhabitant: a Serbian-Orthodox monk. Visit the medieval church, dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God.

Podgorica – Moraca Monastery – Biogradska Gora National Park – Podgorica
This morning we visit Moraca Monastery, one of the largest medieval Orthodox monuments in Montenegro.
The monastery is located on the shores of the River Moraca, and offers a picturesque landscape. The monastery complex consists of the Basilica of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God, the small Church of St Nicholas and a konak. The monastery’s sanctuary was built in 1252. In the first half of the 17th century, the monastery was painted by famous painters of the time.
From the once rich monastery treasury, only a few important ritual objects and liturgical books have been preserved, among which is a copy of “Oktoih First-voice”. Among the artistic treasures of the monastery church are the porch doors and naos. They are some of the most beautiful and original examples of the art of bone intarsia inlaying in wood.
After the visit of the monastery we continue our day towards Kolasin, a mountain village located in Biogradska Gora National Park. We visit the park, One of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves, this are is one of the last three large virgin forests in Europe. The landscape is one of mountain ridges, glacial lakes, and temperate forest. Although it is the smallest of four National Parks in Montenegro, Biogradska Gora National Park contains a big diversity of flora and fauna, including 220 different plants, 150 kinds of birds, 86 kinds of trees.
Lunch in a local restaurant in the village, with traditional plates from the region. We will try the local plate called Kacamak , made of a mixture of mashed potatoes, corn flour, cheese from Kolasin and old kajmak (milk cream).
Afternoon in Podgorica for our last overnight in Montenegro. Dinner and overnight in Podgorica.
